Know before you go

Everything you need to prepare for ACAP. From what to pack to where you’ll stay, this section covers the essentials so you can arrive feeling ready and confident.

  • Not at all! ACAP is designed for students who are exploring business and accounting—not experts. Whether it’s your first time learning about the field or you’ve taken a few classes, you’ll be right at home.

  • You can reach out to Brendon Howell, ACAP Program Administrator or Anyah Cork, Indiana CPA Society Workforce Development Associate.

  • We’ve made it easy—just follow the official ACAP Packing List! You’ll want to bring clothes for professional sessions, casual activities, and downtime in the dorm. Don’t forget basics like bed linens, toiletries, comfortable shoes, and anything you need to feel at home for the week.

  • Most days are casual, but you’ll need business casual attire for office visits, the etiquette dinner, and the case competition presentation. Think dress pants, button-down shirts, polo shirts or blouses, and clean shoes—no ripped jeans or hoodies.

  • You won’t need money for anything official, but you’re welcome to bring a small amount for snacks or souvenirs during outings.

  • If you're local and planning to drive, let us know in advance. Otherwise, we ask that students be dropped off and picked up by a parent or guardian.

  • Students will stay in Irvington House, a residence hall at Butler University. You’ll have a roommate and be supervised by counselors and staff.

    See photos here.

  • Students will stay in a dorm with another student of the same gender. If a student is under 18 years old, they will stay with a student who is also under 18 years old. If a student is over 18 years old, they will stay in a room with a student who is 18 years old.

If additional dorms are available, it’s possible some students may have a solo room.
